Today, Matt Bissonette, who plays sensational bass and sings sensational background vocals in the Elton John Band, celebrates his birthday…his sixth since joining the group in September 2012.

To help celebrate the occasion, we asked his co-band members for a few thoughts on the birthday boy, who is currently relaxing at home awaiting the launch of Elton’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour on September 8 in Allentown, PA.

Davey Johnstone (guitars/backing vocals/Music Director)

“Bass players, in general, are so odd – they never want people to know their birthday!

“Playing with Matt Bissonette, or Arnie Sarnie as he is now known, is one of the most fun parts of my job. He’s a monster musician and makes me look like a genius for hiring him.

“Also, we play each other’s instruments onstage…or, try to screw each other up wherever possible!

“You have to be certifiable to work with this guy!

“Happy Birthday Matt, Love ya dude. – Davey J”

Kim Bullard (keyboards)

“Matt has been a blessing for this band; a terrific musician, a great hang, and a good man. Happy birthday, Matt!! – Kim”

John Mahon (percussion/backing vocals)

‘Matt Bissonette is an amazingly talented bass player and artist. He has been a welcome addition to the band musically and brings a beautiful energy to the entire EJ family.

‘Strangely however, he is not well loved by the sheep community in Cornwall, England and has been seen trying to convince them of his talents as they madly try to avoid him.

‘Happy Birthday from your pal Johnny.”
