This collection of songs from the theatrical show interpreted by artists in addition to Elton was released before the actual Broadway Cast recording and went gold in the US a month later. The Elton John/LeAnn Rimes single Written In The Stars reached No. 2 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart, while A Step Too Far peaked at No. 15 on the same chart in July 1999.
