I Was There: Perth, Australia

"I just want to thank Elton for a fantastic night on Monday night at the Perth arena. I bought the ticket at the last minute, just me on my own.

"I have recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour and now if I want to do something, I do it. So I was right down the front, bopping away and Elton played my favourite, Mona Lisa and Mad Hatters, and at the end I jumped up and was clapping, giving the thumbs up and saying thank you, thank you. I was so close to him and all the other people were sitting in their chairs clapping politely, so as I think I was the only one in the stadium standing up and jumping around and right in front of him, Elton noticed me and was laughing and giving me the thumbs up too, and everyone around us was laughing too.

"Made my night! I felt like he was playing just for me.

"I love Elton; I think he is a genuine honest honourable person, who loves giving back to his fans. And, boy, he has got some energy! And a great voice.

"Thanks so much for a fantastic night!"

"I was at the sell-out concert in Perth on Monday 12th November. Elton and his top rate band, singers and 2CELLOS made it a perfect evening.

"We were sat close enough to see that everyone on the stage loved what they were doing - Nigel Olsson looked joyful all evening!

" We went home feeling very happy. THANK YOU Elton and co. for a such wonderful evening."

“Recently Nigel Olsson said about Elton that he was a genius, and tonight in Perth in the opening concert of this latest Australian tour we saw it first hand - what a concert!

“Elton was the first act ever to play in the new $549m Perth Arena which is a fantastic building and,  even though the roof could not be opened due to the  weather, from the opening note of The Bitch Is Back everyone knew that Elton intended to make this special. On it went with superb renditions of Grey Seal, Levon, Hey Ahab, amongst others. The crowd was left spellbound by some fantastic piano playing (as normal) and his voice tonight was outstanding - and the band also rose to the occasion, sensing that Elton wanted this to be a memorable event.

“Other highlights for us were Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters, the magnificent Funeral For a Friend/Loves Lies Bleeding, Believe and Honky Cat. A change also to Rocket Man, this time playing a short version more like the original. He and the band nailed this concert.

“As normal the great man was very gracious with his fans signing many, many items. This was my 52nd concert that I have seen the master play in Australia - the first ever in Perth. It will stay in our memory for a long time - the energy and the superb quality of the whole show - Elton just gets better if that is possible. We now await the second concert in Perth before to Canberra and Sydney.

“Thank you to EltonJohn.com for the great 4th row seats at a fantastic angle to watch the master play.”

“Elton John, first act in the new Perth Arena, with The Bitch is Back. And he definitely was, all the classics and some new music - 25 songs over two and a half uninterrupted hours.  The place was rocking from start to finish, Sir Elton was incredible! Fabulous venue, superb sound, I've never heard a concert sound so good, so exciting - and what an opening act!

“The 2CELLOS what a revelation, superb musician and so talented, who would have thought AC/DC on classical instruments - magnificent!

“Thanks Elton, Perth loved you.”

Darren from Perth, Australia

"I had to write and say what a fantastic concert this was. The last time I saw Elton was 18th March 1974 at the WACA in Perth – a long time ago, and he was great then. However, he has got better with age.

"He played to the crowd and they loved it. He knows what a concert is:  about two hours of music, the band is tight and there is great understanding between all of them. He was extremely generous with his time, signing autographs. Some of our prima donnas today forget it’s the fans that make them. It was a great investment of my time and money, my wife and raved about it to others. Thank you."
