Elton and the Band at Von Braun Center, September 12, 2012
"The Huntsville, Alabama concert with Elton and the band was Fantastic! From the opening song Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting to the end with Your Song...the concert was a perfect way to spend a September evening in the South, with my wonderful husband by my side. Thank you eltonjohn.com for the Rocket Club tickets on the 10th row.
With the passing of Bob Birch, I paid more attention to the band than I had in recent past concerts. In the concert program there was a touching tribute to Bob Birch. Nicely put together. Elton has the most talented, amazing band in the world. Sometimes, we fans focus on Elton and take for granted the gift of music they add in every concert. Davey picked and grinned playing the banjo on Honky Cat...one of my favs all night. Matt was wonderful strutting around playing wonderful in his blues brothers hat and shades! Nigel was his typical 'smiling for the camera' self...played and pounded those drums and I bet downtown Huntsville heard them from outside the arena! Kim was classic on his keys! He seemed to be having a ball. John was all over....he was fantabulous with every instrument he touched! The girls, well, they were the icing on the sweet cake. Each contributed their own style, loving each song, smiling, singing and obviously having fun! The 2CELLOS...r-o-c-k-e-d...period.
Elton was a true English gentleman. He played for the sold out crowd for almost three hours (with a tickle in his throat) like a true champion! He gave us his very best, and we loved it. Elton just constantly amazes me. He is better each time I see him. My personal highlights were Holiday Inn, Hey Ahab, Levon. Each song played was a winner. The audience was singing along to almost each one. As the crowd around me heard the first notes of each song, they would hoop and holler 'yes'.....the boys in front of me liked Daniel, the girls behind me liked Tiny Dancer, the couple beside me liked Bennie and the Jets and it was all over the arena! Everyone stood almost the whole show. Everyone loved singing the la la la's on Crocodile Rock....and for the most part, on key.
The anticipated 'autograph sweep' always gets the crowd pumping. Just to see an artist of Sir Elton's caliber sign everything for the lucky ones who can get there...is truly amazing. There are not many entertainers from any genre that do that in concerts...as part of the show.
Elton thanked the fans for coming to the show in these hard financial times, that he has the greatest fans in the world. Well, this Superfan is only one of them and loved the evening. Thank you to you, Sir Elton...for being you...and making me smile with your gift of song.
The tour progam was right on the money, yes, I was glad I was there!
