First LATW in Israel
Dennis Azarenkov from the Elton fan club in Russia has sent us this news about an exciting LATW event in Moscow next month:
"On October 6, 2009, the Russian Elton John Fan Club is organising a 'Lunch Around
The World' event in Moscow. It starts at 5 p.m. (Moscow time). This will
be the third LATW event held in Moscow. This time the event is organised
on the day before Elton's concert in Moscow (October 7th) that marks the start of the
European Red Piano tour.
'EJ Party - LATW' will take place on Tuesday October 6 in one of the bars in the centre of Moscow. The program for the event will include contests with prizes, games, small auction, tasteful dishes and drinks and, of course, plenty of Elton John (music, videos, live music, karaoke).
The entrance fee is 1000 Russian roubles (approximately £19.) It includes a full meal during the event and cold drinks. Also it is necessary to make a donation to Elton John AIDS Foundation. The minimal donation is equal to 300 Russian roubles and the maximum donation is unlimited. Usually fans from different regions of Russia come to our event as well as some fans from nearby countries. We would also welcome the guests from abroad! You can ask your questions or send an application for the event to red-piano@ejfc.ru. Lunch Around the World is a method of fundraising for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, organised and run by Elton's fans worldwide. Back in 2002 Nancy Case conceived and hosted the first ever LATW event in West Palm Beach, Florida, raising $2305 for the EJAF. Over the years many of Elton's fans worldwide have followed Nancy's example, leading to LATW events across the USA in Birmingham, North Carolina, Kansas City, Indiana, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Racine, San Francisco, Staten Island, Washington DC, Boston, Manhattan, Atlanta, Minnesota, Westchester, St Petersburg and Sedona, and also in Great Britain, Mexico, Japan, Switzerland, Russia, Israel and Australia. Many of these have now become annual events, and have grown over the years as more people become involved. Over the past seven years over $202,000 has been raised and given to the EJAF.
Events range hugely and have included cake sales, coffee mornings, boat trips, theatre trips, musical evenings, dinners, barbecues, online chats, online auctions and even an Elton John tribute concert.
