I Was There: Moline, Illinois
Elton and the Band, Wireless Center, October 12, 2007

"The last time I saw Elton in concert, I was a 20-year-old college student at Iowa State University and Elton was 28. During the past 32 years, I have diligently followed his career. Most recently in March 2006, I flew from Iowa to New Orleans to see him in concert. Unfortunately, Elton had to cancel that show due to illness.

"So when I read in our local paper that he would be appearing in Moline, about 90 miles away, I knew I had to get tickets. The concert was 2 hours, 40 minutes of musical magic played to a packed house that would have stayed all night if given the opportunity. It was truly a walk down memory lane as Elton and his band performed one timeless classic after another. What struck me was how they seemed to be having the time of their lives right along with the audience, even though they've performed these songs thousands of times over the years. From the perfect opening that began with Funeral for a Friend right through to the rock-the-house closing trio of I'm Still Standing, Crocodile Rock, and Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting, it was a night I'll never forget. And by the time Elton had finished his encore performance of Your Song, which he dedicated to each of us in attendance, I was totally captivated.

"Elton, you are the consummate performer and gentleman. Thank you for touching our small corner of the world. Oh...and happy belated 60th birthday."

Terry from Cedar Rapids, Iowa

"I attended the Elton John concert in Moline last night. I must say of all the concerts I have attended, I have never seen such a brilliant performance. It's amazing to think that one man could have so much talent. He also is the most gracious performer I've seen. He thanked the audience after every song."

"Oh what a night! From the opening notes of Funeral For A Friend to the closing line, "how wonderful life is while you're in the world," of Your Song, Elton John rocked the Wireless Center. The nonstop 2 1/2 hour show was played to a receptive and energetic audience. From my center-stage 12th row Rocket Tickets, I was singing along and dancing during every song with fellow Elton-maniacs. These were the best seats I'd ever had to an Elton concert and out of the four shows I've seen in my 17 years in this world, this one takes the prize. I was still standing after the 25-song set, not once having sat for more than 30 seconds.

"Elton and the band genuinely seemed to be enjoying themselves and the ever-gracious Elton took time to sign autographs before closing with Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me and Your Song. It never ceases to amaze me how Elton's music transcends the ages. From a 5-year-old dressed up like a 1970s Elton to fans who were teenagers during1970s, the audience was as diverse as Elton's music is. The highlight of the night for me was when Elton walked across the stage to acknowledge the audience. I held up my homemade sign proclaiming "CHOC ICE LIVES @ 60!" and Elton stared directly at me for what seemed like an eternity. He gave the brightest grin. That made my night!

"Indeed, Choc Ice [a pseudonym that Elton created in the 1980s] does live at the age of 60 and he shows no signs of slowing down. Long live Sir Elton!"
